Call for Applications – Editor, Invasive Plant Science and Management Journal

The Weed Science Society of America (WSSA) is seeking a prominent weed scientist to assume the duties and responsibilities of editor of the journal Invasive Plant Science and Management effective February 2015. The individual who takes the position must be able to make at least a three-year commitment to the journal. Invasive Plant Science and Management focuses primarily on understanding  the biology, ecology and management of weeds in natural areas, rangelands, and aquatic and wetland sites. In addition to ecological and management research, topics for Invasive Plant Science and Management include molecular aspects of invasive plants, remote sensing, impacts on plant and animal communities, invasion biology, soil characteristics related to invasive plants, invasion pathways, restoration, and sociological studies. While manuscripts are typically presentations of original research, publications can also include case studies, invasion alerts, book reviews, and collections of symposia papers from WSSA or other meetings. The editor must possess a broad knowledge of the areas listed above and of the new directions in which invasion biology and invasive plant management are moving. The editor must also provide a vision for the future direction of the journal; set journal editorial policy; appoint associate editors when current terms expire; select reviewers in conjunction with associate editors; solicit reviews on current topics, serve as arbiter when publication decisions are in dispute; and work productively with the associate editors, managing editor, publisher, WSSA Director of Publications, and editors of Weed Science and Weed Technology. For additional details about the position, see the WSSA Manual of Operating Procedures at http://wssa.net/wp-content/uploads/WSSA-MOP-Revised-Nov2013.pdf. To effect a smooth editorial transition, the society will name a successor to the current editor by mid-summer, 2014. Applicants should ascertain that their institutions will permit them to assume these duties and responsibilities and receive a stipend for this position. Applications will be evaluated by members of the WSSA Publications Board, and the Director of Publications will recommend candidates to the WSSA Board of Directors. Individuals interested in applying for the position are invited to e-mail a curriculum vitae and a statement of goals and vision for Invasive Plant Science and Management to the WSSA Director of Publications, Sarah Ward ([email protected]) by May 30, 2014.
