Description of Employer Clemson University’s Edisto Research and Education Center (REC) is the center of excellence in Precision Agriculture (Ag) for South Carolina and has recently filled several key positions including a Precision Ag Engineer, a Sensor Engineer and an Extension Precision Ag Specialist to complement our current multidisciplinary research and Extension faculty with expertise in Irrigation Management, Power and Machinery, Weed Science, Entomology,Nematology, Plant Pathology, Horticulture, and Agronomy.

Description of duties Edisto REC is seeking applications for a faculty position at the Assistant/Associate level in Precision Nutrient Management and Soil Fertility. The position is a 12-month tenure-track appointment in the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences with 60% Extension and 40% Research responsibilities. The anticipated start date is on or before July 1, 2015. The successful candidate will lead a nationally recognized Extension and applied research program in developing and delivering technologies for nutrient management in South Carolina. Position responsibilities include:

  • Provide support to county Extension Agents. Conduct on-farm tests and demonstrations, participate in workshops and technology transfer via field days, and provide research-based printed and web based media to disseminate research-based knowledge on site-specific precision nutrient management.
  • Develop an externally funded applied research program which includes development of technologies capable of enhancing current nutrient management strategies resulting in increased yields and enhanced nutrient use efficiency
  • Recruit and train graduate students and publish research results on nutrient management technologies and soil fertility in relevant peer-reviewed journals.
  • Collaborate actively with faculty at the Edisto, Pee Dec, and Coastal RECs as well as faculty from the Clemson University campus and other institutions in developing and delivering novel nutrient management programs to appropriate clientele.
  • Support undergraduate and graduate education with interest in nutrient management technologies.

Standard Hrs: 37.5;
Faculty Rank and Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Qualifications sought The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Agronomy, Soil Science, or a closely related field, a strong background in Soil Fertility and Nutrient Management, excellent oral and written communication skills and experience in Precision Agriculture.
