Description of duties The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, with sales of more than $3 billion, is the world’s leading supplier of consumer products for lawn and garden care with brands including Scotts, Miracle-Gro, Ortho, and Tomcat. Scotts Research & Development is seeking a Senior Research Specialist to conduct biological research to develop new products. The Senior Research Specialist will be located at the Scotts Oregon Research Station, a 73-acre facility located in Gervais, Oregon.

Research will be focused on developing value-added live goods for consumers, such as vegetables, annual bedding plants and baskets.
* The Senior Research Specialist will also conduct trial work to launch innovative garden fertilizers, compost, mulch and pesticide products, both conventional and natural.
* The Senior Research Specialist will conduct research in other categories as needed, such as products for lawn care, grass seed and hydroponic systems.
* The Senior Research Specialist will help support Scotts biotech stewardship program in Oregon and Idaho.

The ideal Senior Research Specialist will be a hands-on horticulturist with a passion for home gardens and landscapes.
* The Senior Research Specialist will have experience with live goods, greenhouse practices, plant nutrition and experimental design and statistical analysis.
* The Senior Research Specialist will work collaboratively on cross-functional project teams that include Marketing, Biotechnology, Supply Chain, Packaging and Regulatory functions.
* The Senior Research Specialist must have strong communication skills, personal drive, organization and attention to details.
* Minimum requirement is a B.S. degree in horticulture or closely related field with 3+ years of relevant research experience. Candidates with a Master\’s degree and demonstrated research experience are strongly preferred.
