Description of duties The Technician Process & Formulations is responsible for supporting the development of new processes and products and improvement of existing processes and products. Primary support is accomplished by completion bench scale qualifications and pilot scale testing. Secondary is to maintain systems and equipment by completing preventive maintenance. The Technician Process & Formulations works with the pilot plant team, the research technology team, and the process and formulation development team to prepare laboratory batches and conduct pilot scale trials. Detailed tasks will include preparing for and conducting trials, data collection, and analysis and reporting of data. The Technician Process & Formulations is also responsible for improving system efficiency through new capital acquisitions. The Technician Process & Formulations must be comfortable with the operation and specification of solid and liquid chemical processing equipment at all scales.

Key Responsibilities
* Assists in preparation of laboratory batch samples utilizing laboratory batch equipment.
* Supports pilot scale trials of new processes and new products consistent with business unit goals.
* Optimizes and executes experimental plans to obtain data for process design and product specifications.
* Communicates results in team meetings and through informal emails. Also writes pre-run write ups.
* Assists with plant trials of new processes and new products.
* Assists Operations and Contract Manufacturing with implementation of new or revised processes/formulations through training of manufacturing staff and on-site technical coverage of the initial production campaign.
* Maintains or improves efficiency of processes by introduction of new equipment through expense or capital projects. Develops project plans, estimates capital needed, bids out projects, and oversees contractor installation. Occasionally does own installation. Conducts start-up and shake-down on new equipment.
* Conducts all project tasks in compliance with corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety principles.

Job Requirements
* Education: AS or BS degree in chemistry or engineering preferred.
* Minimum 2 years experience with industrial equipment.
* Experience in bulk solids chemical handling and processing.
* Familiarity with laboratory scale, pilot scale, and production processing equipment.
* History of team oriented problem solving.
* Experience with working directly with contractors or vendors to install or test new technologies or equipment.

Knowledge & Skills
* Hands-on mechanical ability.
* Ability to use current PC-based software (e.g., Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Project, SAP, AutoCAD, etc.).
* Ability to interpret equipment and other engineering diagrams (e.g., blueprints, P&IDs, and PFDs).
* Demonstrated interpersonal skills and teamwork.
* Self-motivated.
* Strong time-management skills.
* Ability to work in a fast paced work environment.
* Flexibility to change priorities and/or manage multiple priorities.
