Description of duties

A MS Graduate Research Assistantship is currently available in the Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville for a student interested in pollutant fate and transport of herbicides in rice production. This research will include field-based plot studies, mesocosm (container) studies, and laboratory-based soil chemistry research. Overnight travel to field sites will be required. The selected student will incorporate soil chemistry, environmental/water quality, and agronomy while interacting with a highly qualified group of researchers involved in a variety of environmental chemistry related projects.More information about the thesis MS degree program can be found at http://crop-soil-environmental-sciences.uark.edu/academics/graduate-studies/guidelines-for-students-seeking-advanced-degrees.php. 

Qualifications sought

Students with undergraduate education in chemistry, soil science, environmental science, weed science, agronomy, or other relevant courses of study are encouraged to apply. Strong analytical skills, and effective written and oral communication skills are strongly desired. Laboratory experience with analytical instrumentation, specifically HPLC and/or GC-MS, is beneficial but not required. Funding for the half-time graduate assistantship (stipend and tuition) is available starting in the summer of 2017, with additional resources contingent on proposal funding. Selection of the candidate is contingent upon admission into the Graduate School through the University of Arkansas.
