Description of duties | An MS level graduate research assistantship is currently available in the Horticultural Sciences Department at the University of Florida. The focus of the project will be weed management and herbicide persistence in horticulture production systems. Research may involve lab, greenhouse, and field studies characterizing herbicide persistence, transport and their effect(s) on citrus and vegetable crops. An ideal candidate will be a highly motivated student who demonstrates the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary research team and ability to conduct independent research. The student is expected to publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at meetings.The research will be conducted at the UF/IFAS Southwest Florida Research and Education Center in Immokalee. Qualifications sought | Students with undergraduate education or background in weed science, soil science, environmental science, horticulture, agronomy, or other relevant courses of study are encouraged to apply. Strong analytical skills, effective written and oral communication skills are strongly desired. Hands-on experience/background in analytical techniques like HPLC, GC-MS or LC-MS is beneficial. |
