Description of duties We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to explore the physiology and biochemistry of stress tolerance in weedy and ruderal plant species in the Department of Plant & Environmental Sciences, Clemson University, Clemson SC. The project involves tracking the tissue-specific metabolism of agricultural pesticides (insecticides/herbicides) and the associated changes in the physiology, biochemistry and carbon partitioning in plants using proteomic and/or metabolomic approaches. The successful candidates will also have opportunities to investigate plant responses to other biotic/abiotic stressors in order to elucidate cellular physiology of stress tolerance in agricultural weeds. The candidate will work with a multi-institutional team in the above research area, and will receive training in ultra-high resolution mass spectrometers as needed by their projects. The candidate will closely work with Multi-User Analytical Lab (http://www.clemson.edu/cafls/mual/ ), a core facility that the group directs, for the analytical part of their experiments.
Qualifications sought Requirements: Ph.D. in plant physiology, biochemistry, or related disciplines, with a strong understanding of plant-environment interactions. A strong background in plant physiology (whole-plant/cellular). Experience in independently conducting mass-spectrometry based metabolomic or proteomic experiments is preferred.  The candidates should have a strong aptitude to learn analytical and molecular techniques as required by the projects.
