Biological Science Technician – Invasive Plants with Forest Service – Olympic National Forest in Olympia, WA

Description of Location These positions will be located in Olympia, WA, but work will be conducted on land managed by the Forest Service throughout the Olympic peninsula.
Salary hourly rates will be $13.84 (GS-04) or $15.49 (GS-05)

Description of duties

The Olympic National Forest is seeking up to four individuals to work with the invasive plant program during the late spring/summer of 2018.  This seasonal work will be performed throughout the Olympic Peninsula with the duty station in Olympia, WA.  Job duties will include assisting in the identification and inventory of invasive plants, manually and chemically treating invasive plants, monitoring the effectiveness of treatment of infestations, and recording and entering data.

Qualifications sought

Knowledge of native and non-native plant species of western Washington is preferred, but not mandatory. Work is primarily outdoors in remote locations, and will require someone who is comfortable working independently on a small crew in various climates and terrain.  Overnight travel will be required; expenses are covered.  Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be comfortable driving a 4 x 4 truck on Forest Service roads.  Employees will be working with herbicides and will be required to secure a Washington state pesticide applicator license once hired. Training and equipment will be provided.
