Description of duties A Ph.D. level graduate research assistantship is currently available in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences at Texas A&M University with the Extension Weed Science program. Potential graduate research areas include evaluating herbicide application technologies, integrated weed management, efficacy of cover crop systems for weed control, herbicide evaluation and stewardship and herbicide resistance management. Research will have the flexibility to include greenhouse, field, wind tunnel and laboratory experiments. The student is expected to present results in professional meetings and publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals. The student is also expected to participate in scholarly activities relevant to their training needs and career goals. Upon successful completion of all requirements, the student will receive a PhD in Agronomy.
Qualifications sought The preferred candidate must hold or be currently working towards an MS degree in weed science, agronomy, agroecology or other relevant field and will demonstrate strong interest in Weed Science. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of agronomic crop production systems and should be familiar with the operation of field equipment. The candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to support the farming community through research and extension, an excellent work ethic, ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural research team, ability to conduct independent research, and proficiency in English language (written and oral). Excellent academic track record and GRE/TOEFL scores are must.

This position requires travel to research sites, with occasional overnight stays. A valid driver license is required (should be obtained within two months of start).
