Assistant Extension Scientist with University of Florida, Center for Aquatic & Invasive Plants in Gainesville, FL

Description of duties This is a 12-month non-tenure-accruing faculty position that will be 70% extension and 30% research, available in the Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS), at the University of Florida (UF).  The assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit.  The faculty member Extension duties will predominantly focus on managing the UF/IFAS Assessment of Non-native Plants in Florida’s Natural Areas (UF/IFAS Assessment, https://assessment.ifas.ufl.edu/), including implementation of the Status Assessment, Predictive Tool, and Infraspecific Taxon Protocol (see http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ag376).  In addition, the faculty member will participate actively in serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research, supervising undergraduate research, and publishing the results with his/her graduate students.  The faculty member will seek contract and grant funding actively to support the UF/IFAS Assessment and related research activities.
Qualifications sought A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in biology, ecology, environmental science, botany, risk assessment, or a closely related discipline is required.  Candidates should have experience with invasive species and risk assessment tools, and demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding.  Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system.  Candidates must also have a committement to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountabiltiy.

Preferred:  Experience designing and conducting experiments, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, mentoring students, managing budgets and programs, and presenting at conferences, workshops and field days is highly preferred.  Postdoctoral experience is desirable.
