Description of duties

Our multidisciplinary research team (weed physiologist, weed ecologist, quantitative agronomist and biochemist) seeks a highly motivated individual interested in the scientific underpinnings of integrated weed management to serve as a graduate research assistant in the Crop Sciences Department at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. The overarching goal of our USDA-NIFA funded project is to investigate potential interactions among cereal rye cover crop residues, allelochemicals, and soil-applied herbicides to ultimately improve weed suppression while reducing selection for evolution of herbicide resistance. Duties will include the design and implementation of laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments to quantify these interactive effects on troublesome weeds of grain production in the upper Midwest. The PhD student will learn cutting-edge techniques for studying weed science at multiple levels of biological organization within the context of a collaborative team approach.

Qualifications sought

Preferred qualifications include: B.S. or M.S. in a plant sciences or biology discipline, experience in field and laboratory settings, basic statistical knowledge with a strong desire to learn more advanced techniques
