Description of duties Potential research topics include environmental fate and efficient use of new rice herbicides, contribution of soil dissipation rates to low-dose herbicide resistance selection, and managing herbicide dissipation and cross-crop impacts of herbicides dissolved in tailwater irrigation systems. Position requires strong performance and commitment to excellence in both academic and research endeavors. Duties include: maintance of >3.0 GPA, carrying out lab and field experiments, keeping well organized data records, writing abstracts, oral and poster presentations at conferences, preparing research reports, and preparation of manuscripts for peer-review publications. Positions may require overnight travel to field locations.
Qualifications sought The Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville is currently recruiting students interested in weed science with a focus on environmental herbicide studies. Selected candidates will incorporate soil chemistry, environmental/water quality, and agronomy while interacting with a highly qualified group of researchers involved in a variety of environmental chemistry related projects.

Students with undergraduate education in chemistry, soil science, environmental science, weed science, agronomy, or other relevant courses of study are encouraged to apply. Strong analytical skills, effective written and oral communication skills, and an ability to work independently are strongly desired. Laboratory experience with analytical instrumentation, specifically HPLC and/or GC-MS, is beneficial but not required.
