Description of duties The Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville is currently recruiting students interested in multi-disciplinary research on herbicide resistance and environmental dissipation of metolachlor. Selected candidates will incorporate weed science, soil chemistry, and soil microbiology while interacting with a highly qualified group of researchers involved in a variety of weed science related projects. The candidate will conduct holistic research involving soil-incubation assays and Palmer amaranth assays for differential response to S-metolachlor. May involve microbial assessment as funding permits. Field, laboratory, and greenhouse work will be required, with overnight travel for sample collection. The position is available to begin in summer or fall 2018.
Qualifications sought Applicants with background and training in weed science, chemistry, microbiology, biology, soil science, environmental science, agronomy, or other relevant courses of study are encouraged to apply. Strong analytical skills, effective written and oral communication skills, and an ability to work independently are strongly desired. Laboratory experience with analytical instrumentation, specifically GC-MS, is beneficial but not required.
