Description of duties

The Global Specialty Solutions Technical Service Manager for herbicides and fungicides handles all the technical support functions in non-agricultural markets, including the Turf and Ornamental, Consumer, Nursery Greenhouse, and Industrial Vegetative Management segments.  This position works closely with market specialists, product development managers, and marketing, regulatory and development personnel, providing broad technical product knowledge.  Primary responsibilities include support of existing products and new product launches through management of field trials, developing and giving training presentations, providing input for sales tools, and managing customer complaints. 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong technical knowledge in herbicide and fungicide commercial, product & technology areas that impact the business. Develop external technical credibility as demonstrated through publications and presentations at customer, scientific and trade organization meetings.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with university research personnel and other key influencers.
  • Develop, execute & supervise appropriate field trial and other activities supporting commercial initiatives, ensuring testing programs are both aligned with market trends and cost effective.
  • Maintain a strong connection to product development to ensure in-depth understanding of development projects to support new product launches.
  • Identify new development/commercial opportunities and make technical recommendations to shape the overall development pipeline.
  • Serve as key contact for customer complaint investigation and resolution.
  • Develop training modules and provide technical training both internally and externally.
  • Provide technical input for label updates/ amendments and sales and marketing pieces.

 

Qualifications sought

Required Education

  • MS in Plant Physiology, Weed Science, Plant Pathology or other related science or equivalent experience
  • PhD preferred

Qualifications

  • 3-10+ years of experience in technical support in golf, turf, lawncare, nursery/ greenhouse or related field
  • Strong technical and sales support skills
  • Experience with field trial experimental design, interpretation and reporting of results to creatively and effectively demonstrate the features and benefits of products.
  • Proven ability to effectively transfer technically complex information to an audience with more limited technical expertise
  • Outstanding written and oral presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively under pressure, navigate contentious situations and resolve conflict
  • Ability to build and sustain strong business relationships with customers and coworkers
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently; makes decisions of a complex nature using good judgement
  • Leads projects with little guidance required
