Description of duties

Corteva Agriscience, Agriculture Division of DowDupont is seeking a Research Plant Pathologist to join Crop Protection Discovery Biology.  The candidate will participate on multidisciplinary teams to discvoer and advance novel crop protection tehcnologies into teh Crop Protection Discovery pipeline.  qualified candidates will use their expertise in plant pathology to assist in the design and evaluation of novel herbicide candidates.

Core Responsibilities

  • Serve as plant pathology subject matter expert and/or project leader or multi-disciplinary teams to collaborate, provide technical input and deliver results aligned with Crop Protection Discovery product goals.
  • Utilize demonstrated expertise in plant pathology including plant physiology, fungicide resistance, and fungicide fate to support the characterization and advancement of novel molecules or technologies within the discovery pipeline.
  • Design and execute fungicide screening assays, and develop new capabilites that provide competitive advantage in fungicide invention. 
  • Define and conduct research across multiple project areas using in-depth knowledge and proactive application of scientific principles, theory and experimental design.
  • Contribute to the innovation process to identify and exemplify new areas of chemistry with fungicidal potential. 
  • Keep current with developments in plant pathology via in-depth understanding of patent, journal literature and competitive landscape.
  • Share subject matter expertise through collaborations, coaching & mentoring.
  • Deliver presentations and publications that distill complex ideas into clear results and proposals for internal and external audiences.
  • Draft and submit patent disclosures as appropriate.
  • Develop strategies for using external contact network; influence external organizations that impact and contribute to Corteva Agriscience, Agriculture Division of DowDupont success.
  • Advocate environmental and personal health and safety by adherence to policies and procedures.
Qualifications sought
  • Ph.D. in a Plant Science discipline is required and research experience with fungal plant pathogens is highly desirable.
  • Strong track record of scientific innovation.
  • Demonstrated aptitude in experimental design and hypothesis-driven problem-solving is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills are essential.
  • Desire to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment is critical for success.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects under aggressive timelines.
