Description of duties

Conduct original research in ecological management of weeds in vegetable cropping systems.  Laboratory, greenhouse, field and on-farm research aimed at balancing soil and weed management tradeoffs in diverse vegetable cropping systems. Projects may include improving mechanistic understanding of weed community shifts in long-term, reduced tillage, cover-crop intensive vegetable production systems;  integrating weed-competitive and “cultivator-tolerant” varieties with new in-row physical weed control tools (e.g. camera-guided finger-torsion combinations); improving mechanistic understanding of the morphological and physiological basis for selectivity in various weed-crop-soil-tool combinations.  

Qualifications sought

M.S. in Weed Science, Horticulture, Agronomy or related fields.  Strong academic record, excellence in oral and written communication.  On-farm work experience desired.
