Description of duties

One graduate research assistantship is available in the area of biological nitrogen fixation to pursue a M.S. in Plant Sciences at California State University – Chico starting January 2019. The graduate student will  conduct field and greenhouse experiments identify fababean genotypes with enhanced bioligcal nitrogen fixation. This three-year project is unded by California Department of Agriculutre. The student will be in charge  of establishing field/greenhouse/lab studies, collecting and analyzing data, write journal articles and present research results at profesinal meetings . The research project occoasinal travels to Davis, Frsno and other parts of California. The student must possess or obtian a CA driver’s license. Depending on the interests and abilities, the students will also be involved in metnoring undegraduate students in reserach projects. 

Qualifications sought

Prospective students should hold a Bachelor’s degree in plant sciences, agronomy, biology, ecology, environmental science, or other related fields. Desired qualifications include a strong quantitative/statistical background, excellent oral and written communication skills, field research experience, and an interests in field studoes. Other desirable qualities include a strong work ethic, ability to work independently, and experience with managing work flows. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, thorough, and organized. The candidate must possess or obtain a CA driver’s license and be capable of operating large trucks and various types of farm machinery. Candidates must also meet the admission requirements of CSU-Chico. International applicants are are encouraged to apply; however, a proof of english profficicny TOEFL (minimum scores 550 PBT, 80 iBT), IELTS (6.5 band score) is required.
