Description of duties Develop and lead an active and innovative extension educational and applied research program in forage, weed science, crops, soils, or rangelands in southeast Kansas, with an interdisciplinary team of extension specialists and research scientists. This program will be responsive to the issues and needs of the people of southeast Kansas and integrate with other subject matter disciplines at the area and state level. Extension-related scholarship includes communication with clientele via public meetings/conferences, web sites, and electronic means, developing traditional extension publications and bulletins, interacting and sharing ideas with other extension and research colleagues. Applied research scholarship should complement the extension educational goals and objectives and includes securing grants, publishing in peer-reviewed scientific publications, and participation in appropriate professional organizations as outlined in departmental promotion and tenure guidelines.
Qualifications sought Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in agronomy or closely related field, with emphasis in forages, weed science, crops, or soils, with a strong background in applied agronomy.
  • Ability to conceive, plan, design, implement, and deliver extension educational programs and applied research in production agriculture.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Interpersonal skills that promote interaction in a multidisciplinary context.
  • Commitment to work in a multi-cultural setting and create an environment that fosters diversity, collegiality, and teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in forage production and weed control methods for rainfed cropping systems.
  • Experience planning and delivering extension programming.
  • Record of extension and scientific publication and grant writing.
