Description of Employer This is a Post-Doctoral position funded by California Department of Food and Agriculture. The successful candidate is expected to conduct applied research focused on legumes nitrogen fixation as cover crop in organic and non-organic cropping systems. Main focus of the research is identifying fababean genotypes with enhanced biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) and high nitrogen benefit to soil. The incumbent is expected to conduct independent field and greenhouse experiments and screen for BNF. Previous knowledge and experience of BNF quantification methods, especially the 15N isotope technique (natural abundance and enriched method) and ARA method is required. The successful candidate is expected to be self-motivated and contribute in all aspects of the research, including experiments, sampling and sample processing, and reports and manuscripts preparation.
College of Agriculture in CSU- Chico is an undergraduate teaching institute. The college provides numerous teaching opportunities. It is expected the successful candidate contributes in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in independent studies.

Description of duties

Qualifications sought
  • A PhD in Agronomy, crop breeding, crop production, horticulture or related fields
  • knowledge and experiences of the application of isotopes in agriculture
  • knowledge and experience of BNF quantification method, especially the ARA method
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills
  • Ability to drive and obtain a CA driver license 
  • Ability to work outside
