Stoneville R&D, Inc. is an independent, privately-owned company that provides contract services in agricultural research for the Mid-South area of the United States. Efficacy research for all agricultural commodities grown in the Mid-South is the core effort. It is the intent of Stoneville R&D, Inc. to confidentially conduct quality research in agronomic crops and specialty crops with reliable and reproducible results. Stoneville R&D Inc. is based in Greenville, MS.

Description of duties

The Agronomy Intern will support research and development (R&D) activities related to the Blue River Technology See & Spray™ system with a current focus on weed control in cotton and soybean production systems.  The internship will be administered through Stoneville R&D, Inc. in Greenville, MS, but reporting to the Sr. Agronomist at Blue River Technology.  Specifically, the internship will involve the application of herbicides with See & Spray™ and evaluation of weed control efficacy.  The role may include, but not limited to, work in the following areas:

  • Setup and treatment of herbicides using backpack or tractor-based applications
  • General maintenance of research trials, including hand weeding
  • Evaluation of weed control trials that include plant counts and visual evaluations
  • Overnight travel to other locations in the Mid-South may be required

The anticipated start date of the three-month internship is May 2019, with work extending into August 2019.  Start and end dates can be flexible based on the availability of the candidate.  The internship is full-time during the three-month period with expectations of working 40-60 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in agronomy, agriculture business, agriculture studies, agriculture application technology, or related field.
  • Ability to understand and interact with agricultural technology and machinery
  • Exceptional understanding of row crop production agriculture
  • Ability to work well in a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment
  • Willingness to live and work in Greenville, MS for the duration of the internship

Pluses

  • Previous internships or experience in production agriculture
  • Experience conducting and evaluating weed control field trials
  • Experience with pesticide application technology
