Type of position The research and Extension program for lowbush blueberry is looking for a Research Assistant join their team, located in Orono and Jonesboro, ME. The successful applicant will conduct and support lowbush blueberry research and education in the field, lab, greenhouse, and at grower meetings. Tasks include implementing and documenting results of field, lab, and greenhouse experiments in addition to data entry and report writing.

Description of duties

The successful applicant will conduct and support lowbush blueberry research and education in the field, lab, greenhouse, and at grower meetings. Tasks include implementing and documenting results of field, lab, and greenhouse experiments in addition to data entry and report writing.

Qualifications sought

MS degree in the natural sciences or equivalent experience is preferred yet applicants with a B.A or B.S and equivalent work experience are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of and ability to apply experimental and registered pesticides, fertilizers, and organic materials is required. Certification as a Commercial Pesticide Applicators License for category 10 and 1B is required within 6 months of hire. Interest in becoming a Field Study Director for the IR-4 Program is required. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are required. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative. The ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines at one time is a requirement. Successful supervisory experience is preferred. The position requires the ability to travel and a valid driver’s license. Ability to collect research samples in field conditions under possible adverse weather conditions and sometimes alone. Ability to lift up to 30lbs and carry it up to 200ft.
