Description of duties

Assistant Professor, Regional Agronomist, 12-month, tenure-track, 80% Extension/20% Research, located at the Kansas State University, Southeast Research and Extension Center (SEREC), Parsons, KS. Tenure home in Agronomy Department. Lead an active and innovative extension education and applied research program to support the 25-county region of SE Kansas. The SE Region grows 1.3 M acres of soybeans, 1.0 M acres of winter wheat, 0.7 M acres of corn, and significant acres of grain sorghum, cotton, sunflowers, and other crops annually. Additionally, SE producers manage 1.0 M acres of tame perennial pasture and 3.0 M acres of native pasture and range, including the Flint Hills. Develop innovative, dynamic communication methods to provide technical expertise for Extension Agents, farmers and industry personnel. Develop an innovative, practical and nationally recognized Crop Production extension education and research program to respond to agronomic production issues. Collaborate to meet extension-related applied research and scholarship needs, participate in professional organizations and publish in scientific outlets as outlined in departmental promotion and tenure guidelines.

Qualifications sought

Qualifications: Required: Ph.D. in agronomy or closely related field with strong emphasis and experience in applied agronomy. Ability to conceive, plan, design, implement, and deliver extension educational programs and applied research in production agriculture. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English. Interpersonal skills that promote multidisciplinary interaction. Commitment to a multi-cultural setting and an environment that fosters diversity, collegiality, and teamwork.

Preferred: Practical experience in crop production, weed science, fertility and forage production. Experience planning and delivering extension programming. Record of extension and scientific publication; success in extramural funding. Salary commensurate with experience.
