Description of duties

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to design and conduct field, greenhouse and laboratory research in one or more of the following areas: 1) dicamba drift and vapor sampling from large-scale field trials and low tunnel trials to elucidate the effect of environmental conditions, formulation and tank mix partner on dicamba volatility, working with industry partner to test next generation of dicamba formulations; 2) evaluation of 2,4-D choline volatility, drift and off-target movement potential from Enlist cotton; 3) evaluate PPO-resistant Palmer amaranth management in peanut with alternative methods, 4) evaluate various removal methods on large Palmer amaranth in row crops to reduce competitiveness and seed production, 5) weed management in specialty crops. The incumbent will be expected to conduct laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments to collect data; perform data analysis and prepare reports independently to funding agencies and collaborators; present research results in field days, extension meetings and various scientific conferences; participate SWSS Weed Contest; and prepare manuscripts for scientific journals and extension publications. In addition, the incumbent will share the responsibility to supervise undergraduate student workers, manage various experimental equipment and provide technical assistance to other weed science studies.

Qualifications sought
  1. MS. degree in Crop Science, Agronomy, Crop Protection, Plant Science, Horticulture or a related discipline.  
  2. Strong communication skills (both written and oral) and interests in weed science.
  3. Valid US driver license and capability of driving long distance.
  4. Preference will be given to individuals with applied field research and crop production experiences. Long working hours outdoor and high physical demand during summer and fall should be expected.
  5. Prior experience with weed control, herbicide application, herbicide physiology and farming equipment is desirable.
