Description of duties In coordination with supervisor, the incumbent will design and conduct field, greenhouse, and laboratory research in the areas of cover crop evaluation for sustainable cropping systems, ecological weed management, and sustainable vegetable and strawberry production. Duties will also include data entry, data analysis, and drafting research reports. The employee will also serve as laboratory manager and supervise temporary technical support workers, and facilitate graduate student and postdoctoral research associate research. 
Qualifications sought Minimum Requirements

Doctoral degree in horticultural science or a closely related field; or a master’s degree in horticultural scence or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in horticultural science or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

A Master of Science degree in a plant science-related field and one year of experience. Prior experience with organic strawberry production. Knowledge and experience in the design of experiments, field plot technique, and analysis of statistical data. Capable of identifying agricultural weeds of the southern US. Knowledge and experience in conducting ecological, physiological, and biochemical studies with plants, organelles, and extracts. Biological and chemical laboratory skills. Ability to independently acquire and adapt new procedures as required. Ability to plan and coordinate work assignments. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Additional Information Required field work is often conducted under hot and humid conditions during the summer and cold conditions during the summer. Frequent bending and kneeling for data collection and harvest are required and lifting of supplies, harvested products, or equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.
