Description of duties | Description: The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Purdue University is seeking a qualified and highly motivated individual interested in obtaining a M.S. degree in Turfgrass Science and/or Turf Weed Science. A student will have the opportunity to conduct applied field and laboratory research with a project focused on sod production and weed control in turf systems. The student will research the production of low-input, sustainable sod species as a specialty crop as well as research the control of weeds problematic in fine fescue seed/sod production. Additionally, the student will be involved with the development of business and marketing research on sod production, farm visits, and the development of Extension materials. Students will interact with a team of Purdue Turf Scientists and collaborate with other faculty in the department and college on this project as well as scientists at the University of Minnesota. This opportunity is suited for anyone wanting an advanced degree in horticulture, turfgrass science, or weed science. The assistantship will equip students for a career in academia, Extension, or industry or in a position as an agronomist, crop consultant, or educator.

Qualifications sought | Minimum requirements: A B.S. degree with a major emphasis in Weed Science, Turfgrass Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Sciences or closely related field is required. Experience and/or knowledge of field plot techniques, experimental design and familiarity with turfgrass management or weed science is a plus. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential. |
