Type of position This is a full?time, field position as a Technical Service Specialist (TSS) in the Product Development and Technical Service (PD/TS) Department of AMVAC Chemical Corporation. Key responsibilities will be to focus on leadership in technical product support to AMVAC Sales Team, Key Account Managers and Marketing Managers within specific sales regions, in this case the Midwest Region, bounded generally by Ohio, Colorado, Kansas and the Canadian border. The TSS will coordinate technical activities between sales teams and Product Development Specialists/Managers to extend broad sales support within the region. The TSS will report into the Product Development/Technical Service Department to ensure a consistent technical message throughout the Sales and Marketing organizations. The focus of the TSS will be on commercial products and support to internal and external customers.

Description of duties

Sales & Marketing Support Activities (80%):
– Identify and coordinate Sales and Marketing technical needs for the respective region in support of the commercial product line.
– Establish a strong communication channel with Sales Managers and their Teams to ensure key regional sales directives are implemented regional sales budgets are achieved.
– Leverage technical data and expertise generated by the PD Team or third parties to provide regional geographic support for regional objectives.
– Develop and maintain productive relationships with key customers at all touchpoints such as channel partners, growers, crop consultants, and University Extension personnel in coordination with local Product Development representatives with guidance from the Regional Sales Manager.
– Assist Regional Sales Team in implementation of commercial product demonstration programs and coordination of new product programs with Sales, Marketing and Product Development to ensure both publishable information and collateral for driving sales.
– Support commercial crop teams by providing market information needed to develop new product solutions.
– Plan/implement field days and plot tours to support commercial products.
– Seek competitive product information and market positions to allow best market fit of AMVAC products.
– Actively participate in PD Planning and Results Meetings to assist with developing protocols and identification of data needed to support correct positioning of new products and technologies.
– Develop and finalize AMVAC technical training programs for sales and marketing teams to support a high level of product knowledge for both internal and external customers.
– Identify needs for focused training or seminars; serve as lead for external training and coordinate guest and expert speakers.
– Present relevant AMVAC findings and product updates at ‘Field Days’ as well as customer meetings, internal business team, and commodity/technical meetings.
– Coordinate and assist in resolution of product complaints as requested by sales team. Develop complainthandling guidelines for sales team and lead training of new sales personnel.

Technical Product Support and Management (10%):
– Participate in crop teams tasked with identifying and marketing new products and new uses for established products.
– Take leadership role in crop launch teams with pre?launch planning, tracking and follow?up metrics.
– Leverage departmental technical information for preparation of technical bulletins, sell sheets, and other collateral to fulfil key sales and marketing needs to drive sales.
– Work with PD to secure, maintain, and update state product use recommendations.

Regulatory Support Activities (10%):
– Identify important regional or national regulatory issues where technical input can affect outcomes and provide such information to all departments involved.
– Assist in securing justifications from key user groups and academics for FIFRA section 18 and 24(c) labels.
– Assist with writing of FIFRA Directions for Use for AMVAC products.
– Interact with the regulatory department and state regulators on issues which arise during evaluation process of product labels and registrations.

Qualifications sought

A Ph.D. degree in an agricultural related field and 1?5 years of technical support experience in crop protection is preferred. Relevant experience will be considered in lieu academic achievements. The incumbent must excel in verbal and communication to allow linkage of technical information with channel partners and sales team members. In addition, above average competency is expected in the following areas:
– Synthetic and biological crop protection.
– Agronomic and technical knowledge of crops, markets, and pests.
– Interest to learn outside the incumbent’s specialty.
– Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to prepare sales support materials.
– Skillful at assessing field research results, literature reviews, and translating into market?related information.
– Strong analytical skills to identify new opportunities within region and effective planning skills for efficient execution of duties.
– Leadership and working with others to achieve objectives.
– Additional interest in team building, conflict management, strategic thinking, and decision making.
– Enthusiasm and commitment to excellence to help build a new Technical Support position.
