Description of duties The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at Mississippi State University invites applications for a PhD Assistantship in Weed Science. The research and extension project is to continue to overcome herbicide antagonism through novel application practices. The project would involve collaborating with growers in the Mid-South and find ways to apply application techniques proven on the research plot size and make it work at the full-size farm level. Working on-farm in this manner would encompass the first half of the degree and the second half would involve wide-spread extension. Field days, farm visits, demos, grower meetings, and more methods to name a few. This heavily focused extension and research project would be ideal for any student interested in university extension and on-farm research as a career.

Qualifications sought Candidates must hold a Master’s in weed science, agronomy, agricultural engineering, or related fields. The ideal candidate would be able to start their PhD in the summer of 2020, but a December graduate is not a deal breaker.
