Description of Location The Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants (CAIP) is located 8 miles north of the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, FL. Students will conduct research at CAIP’s greenhouse, mesocosm, and pond facilities, while taking coursework on UF’s main campus. Office space will be provided at CAIP as well as on the main UF campus.

Description of duties

The Agronomy Department at the University of Florida invites applications for a MS Assistantship in Agronomy. Research projects with CAIP faculty focus on invasive plant biology and management. The successful applicant will conduct research related to aquatic plant management, including (but not limited to) developing control strategies using herbicides, optimizing herbicide application technology, and evaluating the reproductive biology of target species. Research will include a mix of greenhouse, field, and laboratory work. Students will be expected to present at scientific conferences and extension workshops, and publish in peer reviewed journals.

Qualifications sought

Candidates must hold a BS in plant science, agronomy, weed science, horticulture, or related fields. The preferred candidate is comfortable with work under strenuous field conditions (heat, inclement weather, etc.) and able to work independently.
