Ph.D. Graduate Student Assistantship at the University of Florida – SWFREC, Immokalee, Florida

Type of position University of Florida’s (UF) Southwest Florida Research and Education Center located in Immokalee, is seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. graduate student to work on the aspects of weed management in vegetable production. The research will be under the direction of Dr. Ramdas Kanissery (Weed Scientist, https://swfrec.ifas.ufl.edu/programs/weed-science). The overall goal of this project is to evaluate the prospects of utilizing slow-release carriers and surfactants for improving herbicide efficacy and crop-safety in vegetable and strawberry plasticulture production.

Description of Location The successful candidate will be working on the campus of the Southwest Florida Research and Education Center in Immokalee (https://swfrec.ifas.ufl.edu) which is located about 30 miles northeast of Naples and 30 miles east of Fort Myers, two beautiful coastal cities in southwest Florida.

Description of duties The position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing and testing research hypotheses, designing and executing field experiments, collecting data, performing statistical analysis, writing reports and drafting manuscripts, presenting results at conferences, and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals. Applicants must have excellent oral and writing communication skills. 
Qualifications sought Candidates with experience in horticultural science, weed science, soil science, or closely related subjects and a desire to conduct applied research in the field are encouraged to apply.
