Description of duties About this Job:

 Manage the biology aspects for herbicide active ingredient development to ensure timely delivery of active ingredients that are well-scoped, with clearly understood technical attributes.  To lead the development and management of early stage projects and determine robustness of weed resistance breaking technologies.  Provide innovative thinking in active ingredient development to enable rapid, efficient, and value-added incorporation into Syngenta portfolio.  Appropriately shape the development process aligned to thoughtful active ingredient strategies. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Effectively identify and engage with all key active ingredient project stakeholders to ensure efficient, robust product development
  • Lead and/or participate on various teams to ensure appropriate project competence and visibility at various stages of development
  • Develop a regional (North America) active ingredient development strategy and communicate this strategy as appropriate
  • Lead the development of protocols designed to identify biological targets, use rates, appropriate formulations, phytotoxicity, and sustainability fit
  • Develop research project summary documents annually to facilitate knowledge transfer
  • Monitor competitor activity and ensure competitive benchmarking occurs
  • Lead technical knowledge transfer to the commercial business in a professional and thorough manner
  • Participate in appropriate professional societies/organizations and foster Syngenta professionalism and credibility
  • Manage assigned research and travel budgets to maximize bang-for-the-buck
Qualifications sought Education & Experience:

  • An in-depth knowledge of weed control and herbicides
  • Ph.D. in Weed Science
  • Background and understanding of key agronomic factors influencing crop production
  • At least five years of experience in conducting field research including protocol development, experimental design, and interactions with regulatory and other functional groups 
  • Working understanding / competence of processes and systems required for data capture, analysis and presentation
  • Membership on teams demonstrating significant contributions and leadership
  • Demonstrated public speaking effectiveness

 Additional Knowledge, Skills, Traits & Abilities:

Ability to synthesize technical information from various sources to enable key insights to enhance Syngenta competitiveness 

  • Comfort with multi-tasking 
  • Strong project management skills supported by excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication
  • Willingness and ability to influence internal and external stakeholders  
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on critical data analyses
  • Travel requirements – 25%
