Description of duties

The graduate research assistant will participate in a multidisciplinary USDA-funded project focusing on evaluation of cover crop-based, reduced tillage strategies in organic grain cropping systems. The student will work closely with Weed Ecology, Entomology, Plant Pathology, and Soil Science faculty and will expected to develop a research project that focuses on weed ecology and agroecological principles in organic grain cropping systems. The position will be housed in Penn State’s Plant Science Department on the University Park campus in State College, PA.

Qualifications sought

We seek a highly motivated individual interested in advancing understanding of weed ecology and agroecological practices in organic grain systems. The successful candidate will work well within a multidisciplinary team. Applicants are required to have a B.S. or M.S. degree in a related field. Knowledge of organic production practices and previous research experience will be of value for competing for this position. The position requires field work, including a valid driver’s license, and the potential for overnight travel. The candidate must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and demonstrate evidence of effective writing.
