Description of duties

Pursue and complete an advanced degree in Weed Science. Conduct independent research in the area of weed biology and ecology and integrated weed management practices. The successful applicant will work in an interdisciplinary team (Rainfed Agriculture Innovation Network, RAIN) involving crop and soil scientists, modelers working together to improve farming systems and input use efficiency. The RAIN project (funded by USDA) is dedicated to sustainably increasing the productivity of rainfed agricultural systems in the Southern Great Plains by increasing precipitation and nitrogen use efficiency, reducing yield losses to environmental stresses and weed pressure, and restoring and enhancing soil health. The teaching assistant will provide coordination of a summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program as part of the RAIN project.

Qualifications sought

M.S. degree in Agronomy, Weed Science, Plant Ecology, Plant Physiology or related discipline. Demonstrated excellence in course work, written and oral communication skills. Experience in field-based research. Demonstrated interest in teaching and pursuing a career in Weed Science. Ability to work independently and as a team member.
