Description of duties

Two graduate research assistant positions are available for MS and/or PhD students at the University of Illinois-Urbana in the areas of metabolic resistance in dioecious Amaranthus and herbicide safener mechanism of action in cereal crops. Students will conduct cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research aimed at unraveling weed resistance and inducible crop tolerance mechanisms related to rapid herbicide detoxification. Research experiments will involve and integrate data generated via metabolite and transcript profiling, proteomics, immunoblotting, quantitative gene expression analyses, greenhouse dose-response studies (PRE and POST herbicides), and cell biology/microscopy studies of protein and transcript subcellular location.

Qualifications sought

BS or MS in weed science, plant biology, physiology, biochemistry, or molecular biology. Experience with metabolite profiling and/or gene expression analyses is desirable but not required.
