| Description of duties |
General Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Research Specialist is to coordinate the execution of laboratory, greenhouse and/or field research projects as assigned with minimal supervision by the scientist or manager. This position involves all aspects of conducting scientific research including the preparation and application of treatments, maintenance of experimental areas, recording of observations and data analysis. Supervision of temporary help is necessary for proper implementation of research. Research projects support several brands including Scotts lawn products, Ortho, Miracle-Gro, and Osmocote in developing landscape and garden products for consumer and professional use.

| Qualifications sought |
Education:
- B.S. degree in an applied biological science such as horticulture, turf science, weed science, plant pathology, agronomy, or related field.
Experience:
- 1-2 years experience in applied field or greenhouse research or related fields is desired, or M.S. degree. Internships may also be considered when evaluating experience.
Knowledge:
- Working knowledge and experience in the principles of experimental design.
- Working knowledge in the principles of horticulture, turf science and / or agronomy.
- Knowledge of principles in growing media, plant nutrition, soils, entomology and/or plant pathology.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office products. Experience with Agricultural Research Manager is also desirable.
