Description of duties We seek an outstanding early career scientist who will foresee research and teaching needs in biomass cropping systems for Illinois. The ideal candidate will address challenges concerning the potential introduction of new crops and/or the use of existing crops or systems for biomass fuel. The successful candidate will provide a scientific base for agronomic advice and teaching in the state. The successful applicant is expected to develop a nationally recognized research and teaching program in biomass crop agronomy and production. The ideal candidate will become part of a broad, dynamic, and internationally recognized faculty in agriculture. The successful candidate will collaborate as an agronomist in multidisciplinary teams investigating egological, plant protection, modeling, and socio-economic dimensions of biomass production. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate in and provide leadership to projects that include switchgrass, miscanthus, and sorghum. Also it is expected that the candidate will collaborate nationally and internationally to investigate a broader range of potential tropical and temperate feedstocks possibly including sugarcane, pennisetum, echinocloa, spartina, and andropogon. The incumbent is expected to develop a course on the agronomy of biomass crops and to collaborate in the development of a bioenergy curriculum in the department.
Qualifications sought A Ph.D. in agronomy, crop sciences, ecology or a related discipline is required. Postdoctoral experience is desired. The successful applicant must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communications skills; demonstrate clear desire and ability to propose, conduct and report independent and team-based research; and demonstrate desire and ability to develop an excellent teaching program.
