The Coordinator for the Invasive Species Research Institute (ISRI) is an exciting position that will contribute substantially to improving the response to, and management of, invasive species that are causing enormous economic and ecological damage. The Coordinator will help ensure that the ISRI collaborates closely with the New York State Invasive Species Council, state and federal agencies, and regional entities to coordinate and prioritize needs and funding of invasive species research. An advisory committee made up of researchers, outreach specialists, regulatory specialists and others with invasive species expertise will guide the ISRI. The individual in the position will help coordinate Response Teams to new invasions.
The Coordinator will serve as the point of contact for the ISRI, as well as help to develop research priorities and needs, develop partnerships among experts in government agencies, academia, and the private sector, facilitate and coordinate research efforts and ensure their integration with extension/outreach activities. The Coordinator will identify, catalog, and as appropriate, seek funding from sources typical for an academic institution. The Coordinator will organize and host periodic meetings/conferences that bring together specialists to share ongoing research efforts and to help build connections among the many invasive species programs in the region and across the country.
The Coordinator will play a major communications role by preparing reports and impact statements that highlight the contributions made by the ISRI to academic, government, and public audiences. The Coordinator will ensure an ISRI Internet presence, including a regional invasive species research and outreach database. The Coordinator will report to, and receive guidance from, the executive committee of the ISRI advisory committee.
