| Description of duties |
Basic duties of this position will be to assist with the design, analysis, interpretation, execution and communication of experiments in the area of weed control in horticultural crops with a specific focus on invasive weed management in all crop and non-crop environments throughout the state of Tennessee. Specific responsibilities will include implementation and management of experimental field, greenhouse, and/or laboratory research. Weed research will include a variety of methodologies centered on various registered and experimental synthetic herbicides, organic herbicides, and various mechanical control techniques. The successful candidate will supervise and train student assistants in completing outlined research. All field, laboratory, and greenhouse experiments may require physical activity including some lifting, work in extreme temperature environments, and work around radiolabeled chemistry or chemistry of unknown toxicology.
The successful candidate must be willing to travel across the state and regionally for research and associated technical meetings.

| Qualifications sought |
M.S. degree in Weed Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, or other related discipline or a B.S. degree with a minimum of 2 years experience in agriculture research is required. Strong written and oral communication skills along with the ability to work with others in a team oriented environment are a must. Training in all aspects of the design and implementation of small plot research is essential. Experience with general crop production, hydroponics, growth chamber methodology, and experience with radiolabeled herbicide research is highly desirable. Detailed experience with multiple computer systems, especially those pertaining to web based design, is highly desirable. Evidence of supervisory experience is also considered desirable. |
