University of California (UC), Davis/USDA Vegetable Research and Extension Center at Salinas, CA. Through a cooperative agreement between the UC and the USDA, UC research and extension personnel are housed at the USDA Station near Salinas, CA. Ample lab and field facilities are available. Salinas is at the heart of the world's premier flower, vegetable and strawberry producing region. Salinas is also located within close proximity of the Monterey Peninsula (30 miles) and San Francisco (100 miles). |

| Description of duties |
- Contribute his/her skills in collaborating with existing research programs
- Help define future research projects
- Current projects include:
- Hot air and steam for soil disinfestation as an alternative to chemical fumigants
- Influence of environmental variables on weed control with fumigants
- Germination stimulus of dormant weed seed with fumigants and heat
- Non-chemical weed control in strawberries and flowers
- Opportunities for field work in a diverse range of horticultural crops across a range of environments
- Participation in extension outreach activities is available to interested candidates

| Qualifications sought |
Ph.D. in a related agricultural or biological science. Experience or training in weed science, and/or plant pathology is desirable. Strong written and oral communication skills are a must. |
