| Description of duties |
The incumbent will be expected to develop an innovative and nationally recognized research and extension program in cotton and other regional cropping systems including weed management strategies. All scientists at the Tidewater AREC are faculty members of an appropriate on-campus academic department. The scientist will be expected to secure intramural and extramural funding, and will recruit, support, and advise graduate students. Scholarship will be demonstrated through publication of peer-reviewed journal papers, extension articles, websites, and other appropriate media. The incumbent will develop and deliver educational programs to producers, farm consultants, extension agents, agribusiness personnel, and government agencies, and will work cooperatively with other specialists, extension agents, and industry groups such as the Virginia Cotton Growers Association.

| Qualifications sought |
This position requires a Ph.D. in agronomy, crop science, weed science, or a related discipline. Strong communication skills are essential as is a proficiency in statistics and computer skills. Preference will be given to candidates with experience with cotton production, cropping systems, crop modeling, agroecosystems, and/or weed science.
