Description of duties FirstEnergy Corp. is a Fortune 250 diversified energy company headquartered in Akron, Ohio. Its seven electric utility operating companies comprise the nations fifth largest investor-owned electric system, based on 4.4 million customers served within a 36,100-square-mile area of Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

This position is accountable to assist the Forestry Manager by developing, planning, and directing the work involved with forestry operations. Perform field inspections and quality checks of contracted tree crews for adherence to FirstEnergy vegetation maintenance policies. Investigate customer tree-related inquiries, and determine impact of tree condition to FirstEnergy facilities. Provide necessary support to ensure region forestry budget targets are achieved. Administer required supervisory guidance over contracted tree companies within assigned territory. Assist the Forestry Manager during the planning of future vegetation maintenance circuit clearing projects. Provide technical support to internal customers within the region. Dispatch contracted tree crews when emergency restoration plan has been implemented. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications sought
  • Bachelor of Science or Associate degree in Forestry or related field experience.
  • Preferable course work in urban forestry, plant identification, hazard tree evaluation, pesticide applications and communication skills.
  • Physical ability to perform field surveys and inspections in all weather conditions.
  • Detail-oriented, accurate and able to gather and interpret field information.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate Company position regarding tree inquiry to property owners.
  • Interpersonal skills to gain cooperation with internal and external customers.
  • PC software skills to include Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes.
  • Ability to plan and organize work effectively and follow assignments through to completion.
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle required.
  • Availability for work beyond normal business hours.
