Description of duties This position will be focused on research of aquatic invasive species, participation with a number of entities in the state on rapid response planning to the appearance of Zebra Mussels. Coordination with consultants on modeling and planning work. Coordination and training of parks field staff in the distribution of education materials, and inspection and washing procedures for boats that might be transporting zebra mussels or other ANS species. Work may include some GIS work, and the production of educational materials such as brochures/posters, and scientific research.
Qualifications sought Applicant should have a background in wildlife, botany or natural resources and preferably education or experience with invasive species, particularly aquatic invasive species. Experience with MS Office products required and experience with Trimble products or Autodesk products also helpful. Knowledge and experience with motorboats helpful. Applicant should have good written and oral communication skills. This position provides a good opportunity to gain experience with aquatic nuisance species, rare plants and raptors and GIS. Work will be based in the Denver office but will include some fieldwork around the State (30% of job). These will mostly be day trips to coordinate with park staff, but there may possibly be a few overnight field trips. Applicant should be physically fit and willing to hike and camp and have own camping equipment (tent and sleeping bag). Applicant must be able to work alone independently and/or with a group in the field. Applicant must have (or obtain) a valid Colorado Driver's license. Administrative and filing tasks will make up 20% of the work.
