Type of position 12-month, half-time, Graduate Assistant position. Funding is provided by Bayer CropScience to forge a research collaboration with the University of Arkansas in the area of weed physiology, biology, and molecular/biochemical mechanisms of resistance to herbicides focusing on Palmer amaranth.

Description of duties The student is expected to:
  1. Prepare a research proposal for thesis or dissertation;
  2. Conduct experiments as required by the proposed research and maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of work areas;
  3. Take charge of ordering research and office supplies, help maintain research instruments and equipment, and assist in the maintenance of university vehicle used for research implementation;
  4. Analyze data and prepare research reports, presentations, and publications;
  5. Occasionally assist in the preparation of laboratory exercises for weed science courses;
  6. Assist in other graduate students in conducting activities as needed.
Qualifications sought The candidate must meet the minimum grade requirement (3.0 GPA) for obtaining an assistantship in the Drop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences Dept.; demonstrate excellent academic aptitude; display proficiency in oral and written English communication; strong motivation to learn, be productive, and succeed; an excellent work ethic; keen sense of focus; and the ability to work with a diverse group of people or independently.
