Description of duties JOB SUMMARY: Assists in overseeing and coordinating field, greenhouse, and laboratory research activities; plans, designs, and executes experiments; performs field operations including tractor operation and hauling machinery; collects, records, organizes, and analyzes research data; prepares reports, publications, and presentations; maintains field and laboratory equipment; orders supplies; coordinates and reviews undergraduate assistants; assists with laboratory and lecture preparation for HRT 341: Vegetable Production & Management; works closely with other lab group members (graduate students, post-docs, visiting scholars) to insure successful completion of research projects; involves extensive travel to research plots around Michigan.

WORK HOURS: Standard 8-5

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS: Duties associated with this position involve driving a University vehicle that does not require a commercial driver's license but does require medical certification, wearing a respirator, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, and climbing.
Qualifications sought REQUIRED: A bachelors' degree in horticulture, agronomy, weed science, or a related field; two to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in field plot technique, agronomic practices, and farm equipment operations; knowledge of statistical analysis and computer applications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.

DESIRED: A master's degree in horticulture with an emphasis on vegetable production; experience with reduced-tillage production systems, cover crops, weed ecology, and weed management; experience towing and operating field equipment; experience with SAS, Sigmaplot, and Web page design; experience in public presentations and in writing publications; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work well with diversity of other professionals and students.
