| Description of duties |
Role Purpose
The purpose of the Enzyme Trait Event Selection Manager is to implement an efficient and robust transgenic event selection program utilizing laboratory, field, and greenhouse evaluation. The goal of the position is to provide genetic material, data, and recommendations for trait specific events supporting their eventual commercialization.
Accountabilities
- Work in a project team based environment for development of Enzyme products in corn hybrids.
- Develop and implement the event selection program for Syngenta Trait and Technology development. The process will lead to data and material supporting the selection of commercial events that will meet aggressive timelines.
- Develop and maintain annual project and functional budgets. Manage costs relative to budget plans.
- Develop and maintain critical interactions with Seeds, SBI, Crop Protection, and Regulatory Affairs leadership teams.
- Develop and implement project plans to deliver seed and grain to Regulatory functions in support of trait dossiers. Deliver field project reports to Regulatory functions to support trait dossiers.
- Work with trait project leads to develop and maintain detailed project plans for field activities.
- Manage all activities in accordance to Syngenta GM QMS and USDA and EPA regulations.

| Qualifications sought |
Critical knowledge
- PhD in plant breeding, genetics, horticulture, or closely related field. MS with 5+ years of experience minimum.
- A thorough knowledge of plant breeding and genetic improvement protocols.
- A thorough knowledge of corn agronomy and production methods.
- An understanding of efficacy testing of corn traits.
- An understanding of field and greenhouse trial design and implementation.
- Working knowledge of molecular genetics as it pertains to breeding methodology.
- An understanding of commodity grain production and marketing.
Critical experience
- Demonstrated ability in greenhouse and field research process management
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and motivate staff and teams
- Experienced with herbicide and other trait screening and testing preferred
- Statistical design and analysis.
Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities
- Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Excellent communication and team participation skills.
- Excellent problem solving skills.
- Ability to establish priorities and oversee multiple research activities simultaneously at peak work periods.
- Personnel management and development.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Excel, and Word. Knowledge of MS Project a plus.
- Statistical design and analysis.
- Ability and motivation to learn new technologies.
- Ability to exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- Strong commitment to Regulatory Compliance and Syngenta Stewardship policies.
