Description of duties This is a professional position supporting a weed science project supervised by a faculty project leader. The employee will conduct controlled-environment and field weed control experiments according to written protocols. Duties include implementing and maintaining experiments for the control of weeds in agronomic crops; application of agricultural pesticides, operation of farming, harvesting, threshing, sample processing equipment and instrumentation; collecting and analyzing data, and assisting in summarizing research data and writing reports; and supervising support personnel and temporary laborers.
Qualifications sought Required: B.S. degree in agronomy or other plant science discipline, soil science, or biology plus three years field experience in weed control research or crop production or other plant-related discipline; knowledge of modern mechanized agricultural production practies and experience with farm equipment operation and maintenance; demonstrated knowledge of weed science principles and crop production practices; initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision; must have (or be willing to obtain) commercial pesticide applicator's license; good verbal and written communicaton skills; and proficiency in the use of computers, word processing, spreadsheet, database and graphics software. Must have a strong commitment to expanding and fostering diversity in the department.

Preferred: M.S. degree in weed science with experience in weed ecology, crop-weed competition, or integrated weed management; knowledge of experimental plot techniques, experience with ARM data management program, statistical data analysis, and familiarity with Statistical Analysis Systems (SAS) software.
