Description of duties A Graduate Research Assistantship is available to support a Masters or Ph.D. student in the Department of Crop Science at NC State University. The student will have several areas of research focus to choose from with respect to herbicide fate and behavior. The student will be involved in field, growth chamber, and greenhouse research and will also conduct herbicide extraction and analysis utilizing chromatography and other laboratory techniques. Areas of research include but are not limited to herbicide leaching in various agricultural systems, the effect of organic matter on pesticide sorption and behavior, herbicide models for estimating behavior, and herbicide absorption, translocation and metabolism.

Students in the program are expected to interact and work with other graduate students and research personnel to assist with other research being conducted. Students in the program are also expected to publish research in refereed journals and have the opportunity to translate research findings into extension publications and/or presentations.

Qualifications sought
  • B.S. or M.S. in Agronomy, Crop Science, Botany, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated excellence in course work, strong written and oral communication skills.
