Monsanto has an opportunity available for an experienced scientist to join the Ecotoxicology & Ecological Risk Assessment Team in St. Louis. The Regulatory Ecotoxicologist will work in hazard and risk assessment as applied to regulated agricultural products.

Key Business Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the initiation and oversight of ecotoxicology studies according to U.S., OECD, and/or EU regulatory guidelines.
  • Prepare and review ecological risk assessments and other documents to support registration of chemical and biotechnology derived plant protection products.
  • Ability to successfully operate in a team environment as well as provide support to internal customers in several functions within Monsanto’s Regulatory and Chemistry business units – interact external scientists in industry, academia and government.
Qualifications sought
  • Core Business/Functional Skills and Education:
  • A Ph.D. or equivalent experience in ecotoxicology or a related discipline.
  • Experience in ecological risk assessment, knowledge of U.S. or European Union ecotoxicology test guidelines and risk assessment approaches for crop protection products, including endangered species risk assessment.
  • Experience monitoring GLP ecotox studies.
  • A background in nontarget plant testing, plant physiology, and pesticide mode of action.
  • Functional knowledge of biostatistics, experimental design, exposure assessment, and analytical methodology.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, customer focus, project management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to function in a dynamic workplace.
  • Working knowledge of standard computer software; higher level skills including data management and GIS are desired.
  • Ability to function as an independent scientist and work effectively in a team environment.
