Description of duties JOB DESCRIPTION: DEFINITION: Position supports ABC in its effort to obtain and best utilize relevant research data for the production and environmental affairs departments and provides additional expertise/back-up for both departments:

  • Assists with or facilitates the conduct, coordination, cataloging and presentation of Production Research and Environmental Research programs
  • Monitors production and environmental affairs, and regulatory issues
  • Supports outreach and dissemination of research results on applied production and environmental topics and issues
Qualifications sought Knowledge of:

  • Agricultural/horticultural sciences and research with an interest in and understanding of technical topics related to the Production and Environmental departments, along with an interest in and curiosity for how these relate to public policy and California almonds
  • Scientific principles of hypothesis testing, experimental design, statistical analysis and results reporting in order to evaluate studies for credibility/validity

Skill in:

  • Organizing technical information and programs
  • Analyzing, synthesizing, and translating scientific research and technical issues for broader audiences into written and oral products
  • Communicating clearly, both in writing and orally
  • Proficient in time management with the ability to effectively manage several issues and projects at one time in order to meet personal and departmental work deadlines
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with a wide array of stakeholders
  • Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and ability to learn, use and manage SharePoint, databases, and other software.


  • A valid CA driver’s license for offsite duties (e.g., meetings/conferences, ag field visits)
  • Ability to perform work-related activities outside of normal business hours (e.g., conference calls to other time zones, ag field visits, meetings/conferences)
  • Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport for the possibility of occasional international travel.

ILLUSTRATIVE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A typical way to obtain the above knowledge and skill is a combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • Masters degree in agricultural/agronomic/horticultural sciences.
  • 1-3 years demonstrated experience.
