Description of duties JOB DESCRIPTION: This is responsible technical work involving a variety of tasks related to aquatic plant control, industrial and right of way vegetation control.

  • Leads and participates in the aquatic plant control work of crews including operation of airboats, handling and mixing of herbicides.
  • Ensures proper mixture and safe application.
  • Determines the proper chemical to be used in each situation.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance and minor repairs of equipment assigned to his/her crew.
  • Maintains records and submits detailed reports of work performed.
  • Performs routine maintenance and ground work as needed.

Full time position working 4-10 hour days, Monday – Thursday. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications sought
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • One year experience in the use of pesticides/ herbicides and spray equipment.
  • Knowledge of chemicals and their use in aquatic weed control.
  • Knowledge of standard tools and techniques used in aquatic weed control.
  • Ability to supervise a crew to achieve safe and efficient operations.
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver license.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain within 6 months of employment a Public Applicator’s Restricted Pesticide License with an Aquatic endorsement.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in the NIMS or Incident Command System courses 100A, 200A, 700A and 800B.

PERSON SELECTED FOR THIS POSITION WILL BE REQUIRED TO PASS A DRUG TEST AND WILL BE SUBJECT TO DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING AFTER EMPLOYMENT. EMPLOYEE IS PROHIBITED FROM USING DRUGS AND ALCOHOL DURING WORKING HOURS.
