Description of duties JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under supervision of the Principal Superintendent of Agriculture, assist with a variety of research and extension activities in crop production and management practices.

  • Establish, maintain and harvest research plots
  • Perform agricultural operations
  • Collect and maintain detailed records of data and samples
  • Enter and assist in analyzing data and records for reports and presentations
  • Operate specialized research instruments and farm equipment
  • Assist with field demonstration meetings
Qualifications sought Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with plant production agriculture including planting, maintaining and harvesting agricultural crops.
  • Experience in establishment of experimental plots for applied agricultural research and research crop production.
  • Experience using computers for data entry, analysis and manipulation including word processing, basic spreadsheet, and basic statistics programs.
  • Mathematical and statistical skills to interpret data, generate reports, and calculate chemical application rates.
  • Skills to calibrate and operate specialized research and conventional farm equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skills to observe plants and recognize disease and vigor, take soil samples, leaf samples, plant heights, row lengths, weigh and record yields.
  • Skills to organize material in an accurate and clear manner.
  • Skills to communicate with researchers, growers and staff.
  • Skills to keep records, organize and prioritize assignments/projects.
  • Skill to apply pesticide application techniques, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge to understand and follow practices, regulations and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of environmental and soil factors impacting plant growth and development.
